Indoor Climbing Award

This is a formal accreditation called the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS). We can deliver Levels 1 and 2 at Inverness Climbing Wall as part of a week long course or as a block of regular sessions. This is suitable for young people of all abilities as part of their school program, activity agreement or self directed support.

The scheme can be adapted to individuals needs and capabilities.

What will they learn?

  • How to fit their own harness and helmet
  • Safely tying in to a rope
  • How to belay for a climbing partner
  • How to lower a climbing partner
  • Warm ups
  • Climbing technique and movement
  • Climbing grades and how to choose the right climb for them

You can see more about the scheme at

We recommend a minimum of 6 sessions (2 hours per session) for the Level 1 and 8 sessions (2 hours per session) for the Level 2

£145 for a half day (maximum group size of 6)

£225 for a full day (maximum group size of 6)

If you can get a full group together it can be more cost effective or check out the events page for our open NICAS courses.

There is an additional registration fee with NICAS that covers both levels of £10 per person.
